Who are we?

In 2006, a passionate group of Iraqi medical and dental students set out on a mission to create a society for widening participation of students into the medical and dental field and thus SIMA was formed. As representatives of minority backgrounds, we are acutely aware of the difficulties associated with acclimatising to new environments. Nevertheless, we maintain that a sense of belonging within a supportive community can transform challenges into opportunities for growth. Within our organisation, you will encounter individuals who share your experiences and aspirations, facilitating the development of enduring friendships and providing essential support for your success. Our overarching objective is to unlock a diverse array of career opportunities within these professions. We invite you to embark on this journey with us, as we collectively strive towards a future replete with potential.

What do we do?

01

Widening participation

- The Student Iraqi Medical Association (SIMA) is committed to enhancing the involvement of students from minority backgrounds.

- Discovering a community with shared heritage helps create a welcoming environment and eases the transition into unfamiliar settings.

02

Bring people together

- Collaboration among faculty and healthcare professionals bringing about a dynamic learning environment where future practitioners develop necessary skills for the medical workplace through interactive discussions and workshops.

- Engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds not only enriches the educational experience but also contributes to a more inclusive and fulfilling university life.

03

Strengthen university applications

- Support from experienced students who provide tailored guidance and interview preparation to help applicants confidently navigate the admissions process and maximize their chances of success.

04

Build Portfolio

- We host experienced doctors from various specialties who share valuable insights, helping students make informed and confident decisions about their future paths.
